In many cultures around the world, the butterfly symbolizes a soul released from the body or a soul waiting to pass on to afterlife in many cultures around the world. In ancient Greek the word for butterfly is "psyche", which also means "soul" and has derivative meanings of "life," "breath" and "mind." The migration of Monarch butterflies to the small town of Angangueo in Mexico coincides with the Day of the Dead. The people of this town see the butterflies as the returning souls of the deceased. Among many other meanings, butterflies also symbolize: Resurrection, Transition, Celebration, Lightness, and Time.
